The team behind this comparison

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Ke He, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site, and she holds the suture half of the comparison because she performs it. Dr. Tongchun Mao brings the operative view of what an operation would and would not change. Dr. Shaoliang Wang holds the faces that have already been treated once, including removal and revision. Dr. Yongbo Jia holds the skin assessment that decides whether either route is safe to offer.

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation · suspension suture assessment · the suture-or-surgery decision

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Her assessment runs in a fixed order: the face at rest, then the face in movement, then the thickness and elasticity of the tissue under the fingers, and only then the conversation about a plan. She is the person who decides whether a suture route is defensible at all, and she declines it when descent is established, when the neck has separated from the jawline, or when the skin is thin enough that a suture would cut rather than hold. Where an operation is the honest answer she says so, and where the change is early laxity in a face that still has substance she says that too.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment that separates descent, volume loss and skin quality before a route is chosen
  • The suture route: who it can honestly help, and who it cannot
  • Where a thread result has faded or gone wrong, and what can be done next
  • Healing, tenderness and dimpling after suspension sutures
  • The conversation in which a patient is told that neither route is right yet

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch

The judgement is about tissue, not about preference

A suture route and an operation are not two strengths of the same treatment. One holds tissue nearer the surface for as long as the suture lasts; the other repositions tissue at a depth and holds it by healing. The tissue in front of you decides which of those two is honest, and sometimes the answer is neither.
